Serhat Caradee

DIRECTING

Serhat graduated from the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS) in 2000 with a Graduate Diploma – Directing, co-winning the 2000 Australian Directors Guild (ADG – formally ASDA)* award for directing with classmate Cate Shortland. His short films have screened at over 45 local and international film festivals. Whilst his AFTRS short film ‘Bound’ has won numerous awards and prizes, including Best Film: Fiction Under 15mins at the 2001 Sydney International Film Festival, Dendy Awards, the Audience Award at the New York University (NYU) International Student Film Festival, was eligible for nomination for the 2002 Academy Awards (Oscars) in the short film category, and 2 of his short films have been included in the annual Nescafe Short Film Awards in 1998 and 2000. Serhat was runner up of the European Union Film Award, with acceptance into the Berlinale Talent Campus, part of the 2003 Berlin International Film Festival. He is working on many projects all in various stages of development, including writing his second feature, while developing a third, and is attached to 2 other feature films written by prominent Australian writer Stephen Sewell. His much anticipated feature film  ‘Cedar Boys’ was released to critical acclaim in 2009. The film received finance and support from Screen Australia, Screen NSW and Mushroom Pictures. It was also developed with the assistance of the Screen Australia’s – IndiVision Project Lab, one of 8 selected projects.

ACTING

An extensive background in acting, theatre and drama dating back to the early 90′s, training under disciples of Stella Adler and Brian Syron, including Annie Swann, Guy Leslie and Jeremy & Liz Chance. Also some of Australia’s foremost acting teachers, Tom Richards, John Bonney, Barry Donnelly, Tim Elston, Don Mamouney, Aarne Neeme, Dean Carey, Kevin Jackson, Chrissie Koltai, Tanya Gerstle, Adrian Barnes, James Hagen, Tony Barclay, Dr Bill Levis, Joe Meek (from NYC), Robert Bella (U.S.) Patrick Tucker (U.K.) George Whaley and Rob Marchand (Mike Leigh Method). His acting credits include TV series Water Rates, House Gang, Black Jack (tele-movie) and East-West 101 (Series 2) SBS TV, 8 commercials, many short films and 3 independent features. Theatre credits are also numerous, including performances in 2 productions of Midsummer Nights Dream, Hamlet, Fireraisers, Pentecost, Hello Out There, The Man Who Came To Dinner and for Shakespeare By The Sea: King Lear and The Taming Of The Shrew.

Serhat is part of the Natioanl Institue of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Part-time teaching staff.

‘Uncovered’ (un-produced): A Middle Eastern and Asian undercover police officers surveillance of a corrupt criminal lawyer in a city bar has some unusual surprises and challenges when they are confronted in the toilets.

‘One More Time’ (un-produced): A gambler decides to end his life with a lethal cocktail of tablets in a hotel room. Then a surreal dream sequence sends him into a white void and divine intervention brings him back, or is he back? Did he ever leave?
